Dim Dim Sum Shatin 點點心沙田店

My visitor from Europe loves dim sum.  After Tim Ho Wan on Wednesday, we visited Dim Dim Sum Shatin branch on Sunday. The food was very good.   We like everything, the variety, taste and presentation.  It was featured in Time Out, Newsweek and different media. I visited its Mongkok branch previously.  Its Shatin branch is equally impressive. And it is value for money. Seven dim sum cost HKD160.  A delicious deal and gourmet experience!

Dim Dim Sum serves both traditional and creative dim sum.   Our first dish was deep fried dumplings with wasabi filling.  Not piping hot when it was served.   It was different from the traditional one, with a subtly sharp taste delighting the taste bud.

Pan fried stuffed eggplant with Teriyaki sauce - a change of taste, savoury and sweetness from the Teriyaki sauce. It matched with well with eggplant and the stuffing.

Next came my most favourite dish of this visit - crispy rice flour rolls with shrimp. The texture combined crunch from deep fried flour batter, smooth velvet rice sheet and fresh shrimp.  Wow, superb!

Traditional dim sum such as pork dumplings with crab roe (siu mai) 蟹子燒賣皇  and stuffed bean curb wraps with oyster sauce 蠔油鮮竹卷  also won our appreciation.  I recalled the siu mai from Tim Ho Wun and would say Dim Dim Sum gets a higher mark.

A few pieces of soaked mushroom topped the stuffed bean curb wraps.  They added flavours but not sure if Caucasian would love it.   I like the dish, anyway.

Sweet came the last.  There were a few choices, not easy to make a decision.   I saw green tea black sesame cake on our neighbour's table.  Looks good. Muscovado sugar honey comb sponge cake is a signature dish.  It sounds gorgeous.  But we picked deep fried sweet potato balls and steamed egg custard bun.  Both are good.  The sweet potato balls were not hot but the steamed egg custard buns. And they were presented in lovely piggy form.   You know which is the winning star.........

We arrived at the restaurant around 11 am and could get a table (without air condition) immediately. But tables were filled up very quickly.  So, be there early.
