Moreish & Malt (Wanchai)

It has been over a year that Stephanie and I haven’t met. She was very kind to offer meeting in Wanchai, after my working hours. We picked Moreish & Malt among 5 preliminary choices. Comments at Openrice are all positive, covering food quality, atmosphere and service level. Moreish & Malt is both a casual dining restaurant and bar. It first opened its doors on the Kowloon side. Lately, after winning diners’ hearts, it has extended its business to the Hong Kong Island. The restaurant design is modern, pleasing and relaxing. Every guest can enjoy chilling there with a drink and yummy food.

Our food came prior to the drinks. Octopus salad was served first. Wow! The vibrant colours and generous portion attracted eyesight and made us drooling. So beautiful and aesthetic! The octopus pieces were tender and fresh. Refreshing ingredients included orange, red onion, tomato, salad, salmon roe, black white sesame and edible flowers. The accompanying Japanese style dressing sharpened the freshness, tastes and combined the different textures in a fabulous way.

Then came the drinks, Hawaii and Sunset. They were colourful and delightful! Helped us to relax further.

Our second appetizer was baked cauliflower with Korean cabbage and cheese sauce. The fusion outcome was very interesting. The first bite was the fragrant cheesy cauliflower. Then a splash of spice exploded slightly in the mouth.

We took a small break, chatted and enjoyed the cozy happy reunion. For main course, we were recommended a choice which was not presented in Openrice posts: slow cooked lamb rump meat. It was soft, tender and juicy. It was fabulous whether it was served alone or accompanied by mint jelly. I was very happy with the food and glad that I made a good choice.

Last but not the least, dessert!!!!!  Tofu cheesecake was decorated with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, walnuts and mint. The taste of tofu was more intensive than cheese. The cake base was soft and a bit mushy. Personally, I prefer biscuit base for its crumby and crispy texture.

The service staff members were quite international. The head server was from Abu Dhabi. He was funny. The other waiter and waitress were attentive and provided superb service. The restaurant was not full on a Monday night. Guests were mostly youngsters. The majority ordered one or two dishes and did not stay as long. It was an enjoyable night. Thanks Stephanie for the birthday treat.
