Kwan Kee Clear Soup Beef Brisket 群記清湯腩

I heard a few times that Kwan Kee in Tai Po provided excellent beef brisket in clear soup.  Its famous top seller beef brisket (al dente) is sold out very quickly.   The day I went to Tai Po Market to purchase fresh salad (with roots) and took a chance to try the renowned brisket in soup.

Outside the restaurant one could see photos of Anthony Bourdain and the old-day popular band Wynners.  Besides there were prizes and features in magazine.  The endorsements imply the quality.

It was in preparation before 1pm.  When I returned 20 minutes after 1pm there was quite a long queue outside the restaurant whilst inside was full of people.  Luckily the queue moved quick.   I got the menu.  Hmm, the prices are quite high.  Noodles in soup can range started from HK$20.  Better quality ones charge higher prices.  But here starts from HK$37.  The most expensive al dente beef brisket and beef penis were priced at HK$48.  No worry!  Let's try the al dente beef brisket.

Wow, it was really excellent.  The texture was between chewy and tender. The meat and soup were very beefy.  For sure I would recommend and come back.

Oh yeah, I revisited after 2.5 hours to try the beef cheek.  It's more chewy and had a more intensive beef flavour.  It's a bit cheaper.  I would prefer the al dente one as it has a bigger variety of different cuts and a more beautiful texture.

Below are the English and Chinese menus.  Be early there if you would like to try the al dente beef brisket.
