Hono Tenndon Tempura 炎天丼


I normally stay away from deep fried food as it is unhealthy. Acne will appear on my face the next day. And it adds much fat to my body which will stay in my liver.  So scary!  But sometimes, I cannot resist the temptation, especially when it is cooked marvelously. Deep fried food is excellent in Singapore and Japan. and my favourite deep fried Japanese is tempura.   One day I passed by Hono Tenndon 炎天丼 in Mongkok. It specialises in tempura and set. Without a second thought, I went inside and was very satisfied.


I picked a seafood set. After a miso soup, I was presented the fabulous tempura made with seafood, vegetables and egg. Rice was put at the bottom. The presentation was beautiful. Apart from a prawn, seafood like squid and crab meat were offered. Vegetables include lotus root, eggplant and choi sum. The texture and taste of each individual component were wonderful. Totally out of the expectation and my thumbs up.


The very special is a tempura egg. The egg yolk then flew over the rice. Together with the soy sauce and Japanese mild spice, it made the very best eggy rice. Superb!


The other merit is: the restaurant is very serious to make you aware the proper way to enjoy the tempura and they have chosen the best appropriate rice for the dish.  I like their zeal and passion.
