Room68

Angel and I spent a relaxing afternoon at Room68, rooftop tea room at Tung Nam Lau 東南樓 which evolves from a traditional Chinese restaurant to a commercial building and lately a hotel, co-working space and art space. It aims to break barriers and bring people together through art.

Tung Nam Lau is located at 68, Portland Street. The big red sliding door draws tourists and locals to take photos and post at social media. We rose up to 23/F. Just out of the lift is an artistic reception place. A beautiful staff, Ng Cool Cool, took up to one floor up. The place is nostalgic and filled with art pieces. Light permeates through big windows. Guests can enjoy tea or coffee in the open space.

As I knew that only coffee and tea are served, I left a message to Room68 that I would like to bring pieces of cake to enjoy with their fabulous drinks. No answer and no call back. We were recommended tea from Chiu Chow. The name is 蜜蘭香 . It is a kind of 單欉茶.

Alex Lai, the barista, explained the way to enjoy the tea.  He pre-washed the tea leaves with boiling water. The water was removed prior to the serving. Boiling water was poured on the tea leaves. Let is sit for 30-40 seconds in the tea pot. It was then poured into the jug next and further to small serving cups. Each time the tea was sufficient for 5 to 6 cups. The rituals repeat 4 to 5 times.

The highlight of the arts is definitely 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival' (《清明上河圖》)  and 'Lantingji Xu'  (《蘭亭序》).  But the modern pieces are also impressive.   I like the water tap in the toilet. One has to move the tea pot like pouring tea to get one's hands washed.

We sat at the far end of the tea room. A lovely green plant drew my attention. It was so beautiful when the sunlight was on it.

We had nice time there and will return. Thank you Cool Cool and Alex.
