JAR Just-a-restaurant

On a Thursday, Katherine my business friend from Shanghai wechat me about her visit to Hong Kong and would like to meet for dinner.  Oh sure!  She would like to meet in Central as she needed to buy iphone from the Apple Shop.   It's a bit tough to find a place in Central on a Sunday.  Yes, I did research and ruled out those with shut doors.  Still the first two were closed.  And we ended dining in this little pearl at Lyndhurst Terrace, Just A Restaurant (JAR).  It was a delight to find it and I am sure to go back there again.

For appetizers, we had Beef Carpaccio and crab avocado lettuce salad.  They came in big portions.  The beef was fresh and beefy.  The creamy texture and the crispy lettuce delivered well balance.  We finished the two with empty plates.

The mains were sea bass and stewed beef cheek.  The sea bass with mixed grilled vegetables accompanied with white wine, oh superb!  The beef cheek flavor was intensive.  And it's filling.   But it was good.  I took a similar dish once at Tosca of the Ritz Carlton.  It was excellent but its ragu and the portion was tiny and cost much more.  And the view from100th floor over the harbor was magnificent. Still, I was very happy with the generous portion and great taste served at JAR.

The desserts, bread pudding and blueberry cheesecake, ended the dinner with fond memories.  An enjoyable night with Katherine. Now, good friends rather than client and agency.

The restaurant was quite empty on a Sunday night.  Reservation is not mandatory.  However, it is paced during week day lunch hours.  Please sure to secure a table before you pop in.
