Cheung Kee Peking Cuisine 祥記

It's Mannings' ex-colleagues' reunion, plus Karen's baby (5 months).  Nice that all could show up: Michelle, Susanna, Jeff, Connie and Karen's husband, Brian.  A nice night with laughter.  Of course, good food.  Thanks Brian for the recommendation,祥記  Cheung Kee in Wanchai.

It is tiny and full house on a Monday night.  Foreginers arrived from time to time.  It suits all walks of life, east to west.

Karen and Brian arrived earliest and started with appetisers as our pregnant mom could not tolerate hunger.  What they ate are not seen here, ha ha.  I arrived around 7.30 on time, followed by Jeff.  Well, drunken chicken.  Sumptuous smell of Chinese wine and tender meat.  Too good to keep it for the late comers, sorry.

Main courses served soon.  First came chicken dumpling soup.  Chicken taste assimilated in the soup. Dumplings were excellent.  A balanced diet complemented with cabbage.

The fried egg white, named crab meat, was smooth and with intensive taste of egg white.  It is eaten with vinegar, adding a twist to the plain dish.

Pigeon meat & cashew wrapped in lettuce.  Nice mix with the crunchy lettuce, only in Chinese cuisine.  Vietnamese wrap spring roll in lettuce.  Different ways, both are yummy dishes.

White fish cooked with a special marinate, of vinegar origin.  Tender and juicy.  But the portion is not big enough for 7 persons.

Pork meat, coarsely chopped, braised in soy sauce, vermicelli and cabbage.  I preferred in clear broth.  But the one in clear broth is not common.  I ate only once in my life, in a restaurant in Beijing.  Still a dish for stir fried vegetable.  Too simple and therefore no photo.

Next came two dim sum, snacks.  Fried dumpling and spring onion cake.

Last but not least, desserts:  deep fried banana in batter and dipped in ice water & deep fried batter coating sweet bean paste.  Both are very good, even I seldom eat deep fry.

The dinner is of good value, HK150 for each person.  3 Appetitisers, 5 main courses, two dim sum and two desserts.  Super!
