Crystal Jade 翡翠拉麵小籠包

This is my last working day in Central.  Colleagues brought me to Crystal Jade, a famous restaurant for Dan Dan noodle (Dan Dan Mian) and xiao long bao, originated in Singapore.  It offers Chinese dishes from a few provinces.  Certainly this is not my first time to Crystal Jade, but the first for visiting its shop in IFC (International Finance Centre), and probably not a second time in the near future.

Dan Dan noodle and xiao long bao are the signature dishes of this restaurant.  The previous is typical noodle dish in Sichuan.  It is served with spicy soup mingled with peanut sauce.  Spice and nutty flavour, what an invention!  It’s not difficult to understand why mankind succumbs to good food.  Even the naked chef, Jamie Oliver, featured it in his TV series.  It is a renowned dish internationally.

I am not an expert of Xiao Long Bao.  For sure, this one here is on the par to good servings in first class Shanghaiese restaurants.

Ham and bean curd wrapped in Rice cake is a favourite dish from Hedy.  Wow!  It’s a new trial enlightening the taste bud with various textures putting together.  The ham is dry aged and thick.  It’s a bit hard and got a strong pork meaty favour.  The bean curd is deep fried to give a crispy texture.  A slice of cucumber adds crunchiness and freshness. The rice cake is nicely warm and soft.  The combined tastes and textures, superb!

Fish in bean sauce is also a surprise.  The fish was tender.  Together with the slightly sweet bean sauce made it a sumptuous dish.  All gone!

Fried rice was an average one.

A dash of sadness surrounds me in these two days.  The later today was, the biggest the sadness grew.  I still walked the last round before the departure.  I will be back to IFC, cut hardly for work again.  Sigh!
